    I am so pleased with my new Walnut Cracker. It really works when others I've tried haven't. We have really hard to crack black walnuts that I have been known to use a sledge hammer on. This walnut cracker is easy to use. However, I have found that the least amount of pressure used to barely crack the walnut results in much larger uncrushed meats (sometimes 1/4 the size of the walnut)that are easy to pick out of the walnut. I was so used to a sledge hammer, it is unbelieveably easy to crack walnuts now.

        The design is great but the workmanship is lousy. The first thing I noticed was when I pulled it out of its box and the base fell off. I thought that the bolts simply were not tightened. So after finding the proper allen wrench, I attempted to tighten the bolts. I could not because the threads were stripped on the walnut cracker itself!
        The teeth on the gear are not uniform causing tight spots when pulling the lever. It was hard to pull even without a walnut in it. The machining on this was very poor quality. I'm thinking the Quality Control people must have been asleep when this one went past them because it should have been in the reject pile.
        There are several good things about this walnut cracker: it came with 2 sets of nut holders- one set for large nuts and one for small nuts; we were able to crack some black walnuts with it (despite the problems) and the nutmeats came out in large pieces.

        Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

          This machine looks overbuilt but it does a very delicate job of cracking black walnuts so the shells are broken but the nut meats remain whole.
